Teacher of the Year for October

“Every student can learn, just not on the same day or the same way.”-George Evans. Students in math often don’t understand the subject this causes a disinterest in the course. This year at Irvin a new math teacher Yadira Valdez became part of the Rocket Family, in Ms. Valdez’s classroom students are encouraged to ask question and interact with Ms. Valdez to better understand math. Yadira believes that creating a nurturing environment for all can be the difference in a student’s life.

The hot summer sun beamed over Yadira and her cousins, as they played school outside. When assigning roles Yadira would be the teacher and her cousins the students, as the teacher Yadira would give her students tasks to complete. As Yadira grew so did her passion for teaching. Eventually Yadira became Ms. Valdez when she began to work as a teacher soon after graduating from UTEP in 2013.

Today Yadira Valdez has been teaching for 11 years, 4 years in El Paso, and 6 in San Antonio! No matter where Ms. Valdez is she finds a way to impact the people around her and create a positive change in their life’s. It’s Yadira’s first year at Irvin High School and she is already leaving her mark at Irvin. Valdez will dedicate her time here at Irvin helping the students of Irvin soar.
