Message from Superintendent Diana Sayavedra

Dear El Paso ISD:

Spring has arrived! The essence of renewal and new beginnings that define this vibrant season are evident within El Paso’s District this week. Exciting developments abound that will further enhance the educational landscape for our students and families. From the establishment of a new Montessori program location to the pending arrival of registration season, we embark on a journey of progress, equity, and inclusivity throughout our district's expansive footprint.

I am pleased to share that Dr. Green Elementary School will be home to the district’s second Montessori program location, expanding opportunities for families to engage and empower learners in their educational journey.  The latest Montessori program will open to students beginning in the 2024-25 academic year. The West El Paso location will allow families throughout the district a second opportunity to have their child experience this unique program. Students residing within the Dr. Green Elementary School boundary will have priority seating in the new Montessori program. Secure your seats here

Registration for Montessori and all El Paso ISD programs for the upcoming academic year opens Monday, April 1. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of El Paso ISD! Go to episd.org/register to start your child’s journey.

If you live in District 3 and are interested in being an instrumental part of moving our district forward, submit your application to be considered for the District 3 Trustee position. The board is seeking dedicated individuals committed to fill the vacancy through an appointment process.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, March 25. Access the qualifications, required application forms and relevant policies here. The community is invited to join the candidate forum and learn more about each candidate at 5:30 p.m. April 2, 2024, at Austin High School.

This week, our Board of Trustees approved adjustments to the school attendance boundaries for 12 campuses throughout the district. This decision, made in alignment with the district’s commitment to enhanced educational equity, follows a thorough review conducted by the School Attendance Zone (SAZ) committee. To learn more about these adjustments, visit episd.org/attendancezones2024

A dozen of our high school soccer teams are taking the field beginning Monday in the bi-district round of the UIL state playoffs. Congratulations to our El Paso High girls and our Burges boys teams for winning the District 1-5A title in their respective divisions. And good luck to all our squads in the postseason. Boot the competition!

This weekend, our El Paso High and Jefferson Silva student performers will take the stage in the Class 5A UIL One-Act Play competition at Eastwood High School. The top acts will advance to the area competition in Seminole, Texas, on April 9. Break a leg, El Paso ISD!

The district’s spellers enjoyed a successful week. El Paso ISD student Christopher Johnson placed third at the El Paso Regional Spelling Bee, which took place Friday at Bowie High School. On Wednesday, Shaheli De Silva from Young Women’s STEAM Prep Academy and Emiliano Ferran Martinez from Mesita Elementary School tied for first place in the district’s Spanish Spelling Bee. Congratulations to our wordsmiths!

It’s exciting to be back. There is plenty of work left to do. Let’s move forward together.

It starts with us.

Sincerely,

Diana Sayavedra
