Shrek the Musical

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – July 9, 2026) — While many students are enjoying summer break, El Paso ISD students are spending their break doing something few students ever experience, producing a full-scale theatrical production of Shrek The Musical from script to stage.

Presented by El Paso ISD Fine Arts, the production showcases students from across the district who are involved in every aspect of theatre, from acting, live music, stage construction, lighting, costumes, and technical production, highlighting the depth of talent within El Paso ISD's Fine Arts programs.

Shrek the MusicalThe production will be held July 15-18 at Coronado High School, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Before each performance, families and community members can meet El Paso ISD Senior Director of Fine Arts Phillip Barraza and Fine Arts educators from 5 to 6 p.m. to learn how students can become part of one of the region's most comprehensive and award-winning Fine Arts programs, offering opportunities in theater, music, visual arts, dance, mariachi, and more.

"Fine Arts gives students the opportunity to discover their passions, build confidence, and develop skills that last a lifetime," said Phillip Barraza, Senior Director of Fine Arts for El Paso ISD. "This production is a celebration of our students' creativity, teamwork, and dedication, and we invite our entire community to come experience what makes Fine Arts in El Paso ISD so special."

The summer musical provides students with valuable real-world experience while strengthening collaboration, creativity, communication, and leadership skills alongside Fine Arts educators from across the district.
