Message from Martha Aguirre Interim Superintendent

Dear El Paso ISD Community,

It is truly an honor to serve as your Interim Superintendent. Having dedicated more than 25 years to public education—and the majority of that time here in our beloved district—I’m filled with gratitude and excitement as I step into this role. My promise is simple: to keep students at the heart of everything we do, to support our amazing staff, and to ensure our community continues to feel proud of the work happening across El Paso ISD.

This week we have the joy of cheering on Emiliano Ferran Martinez, a talented student from Wiggs Middle School. He will represent El Paso ISD at the national level after placing eighth at the Texas State Spanish Spelling Bee. Emiliano earned his spot at the state competition by taking first place at the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee last month, where he triumphed after 30 challenging rounds. We are incredibly proud of Emiliano and wish him the very best! —¡vamos, Emiliano!

We’re also excited to recognize three graduating seniors who were recently named Burger King Scholars for their academic excellence and leadership:

  • Sophia Keiser – Franklin High School

  • Elsa Sarinana – Franklin High School

  • Ivan Ramirez – El Paso High School

Each student received a $1,000 scholarship from the Burger King Foundation. We’re grateful to our local Burger King partners for continuing to invest in the success and future of El Paso’s students.

As a reminder to families, registration for the 2025-26 school year is still open. Whether your family is returning or joining us for the first time, we encourage you to complete your registration online and upload all required documents— such as proof of address, immunization records, and parent ID. Registering early helps us prepare class schedules and ensure your child has access to the programs and activities that best match their interests.

This week, the Board of Trustees approved El Paso ISD’s $547 million operating budget for the 2025–26 school year. Through strategic decisions made over the past year and funding from House Bill 2, we successfully reduced our budget shortfall to $6 million.

This new budget includes meaningful pay raises for teachers and staff, highlighting our commitment to financial sustainability and maintaining the high-quality education our students deserve. At a time when many school districts across Texas are experiencing deficits and layoffs, El Paso ISD is on track to finish the year with one of the strongest financial outlooks in the region.

This progress reflects thoughtful stewardship, responsible resource management, a healthy fund balance, and a strong dedication to supporting our staff—all while keeping student success front and center.

And just a quick note to families: El Paso ISD is now operating on summer hours. District offices are open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and closed on Fridays during the weeks of June 9, 16, 23, July 7, and July 14.

Thank you for being such an important part of our community. Whether you’re enjoying a slower summer pace or gearing up for the year ahead, know that we’re here for you—and inspired by all you do to support our students.

It starts with us.

Sincerely,

Martha Aguirre Interim Superintendent, El Paso ISD
