(EL PASO, TX – August 10, 2024) — The 2024 ESC19 Teacher of the Year awards ceremony, held on Saturday, August 10, at the Starlight Event Center, celebrated the dedication and excellence of educators across the region. This year, El Paso ISD proudly watched as one of its own, Dora Esquivel, a special education instructor at Coach Archie Duran Elementary School, took home the top award.
Dora Esquivel’s win is a testament to her exceptional dedication, passion, and commitment to her students. Her innovative teaching methods and unwavering support have made a significant impact on her school community, earning her this prestigious recognition. “Winning this award is an incredible honor,” said Esquivel. “It reflects the hard work and determination of not just myself, but also my colleagues and students who inspire me every day.”
While Florangela Calderon, a librarian at H.E. Charles Middle School, did not win the top award, her outstanding contributions were also celebrated. Calderon’s dedication to fostering a love for reading and learning in her students has left a lasting mark on her school.
“We are immensely proud of Dora Esquivel and Florangela Calderon for their remarkable achievements,” said Superintendent Diana Sayavedra. “Dora’s win is a shining example of the excellence within our district, and Florangela’s contributions are equally commendable. Both have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and have made a positive impact on the lives of their students.”
The ESC19 Teacher of the Year awards serve as a platform to recognize and celebrate the outstanding efforts of educators who go above and beyond to ensure their students receive a high-quality education. El Paso ISD is honored to have its teachers recognized in this distinguished event.
