Dear El Paso ISD,
This week, our Class of 2025 crossed the stage and swapped their tassels from right to left, marking the culmination of a remarkable journey. I had the honor of certifying their graduation, and as I did, I reflected on how, just four years ago, this group of young leaders began their high school journey alongside my own beginning as Superintendent of El Paso ISD. What a privilege it has been to walk beside them—and all of you—through challenges and triumphs, through moments of doubt and moments of incredible growth. Watching them reach this milestone, I couldn’t help but feel the immense pride and inspiration they’ve brought to their families, teachers, and our entire community.
During the ceremonies, I shared a personal reflection about the lessons passed on to me by my father—a former migrant worker whose life was transformed through education and the support of caring teachers. His hands bore the marks of hard labor, but his spirit was guided by dreams that never faded. His journey serves as a reminder that with resilience, opportunity, and belief in oneself, anything is possible. I encouraged our seniors to lean into the challenges ahead, to let their hands be shaped by meaningful work, and to pursue the dreams that ignite their hearts. No matter where life leads them, I know they—and all of us—will carry the spirit of El Paso ISD with us always.
As I reflect on my time as Superintendent of El Paso ISD, I am deeply proud of all that we’ve accomplished together as a community. From launching our “Hopes and Dreams Realized” Strategic Blueprint to expanding early childhood and Montessori programs, to implementing a guaranteed and viable curriculum and investing in principal leadership development—we’ve kept students at the heart of every decision.
Though I’ll remain in an advisory capacity as Superintendent Emeritus starting June 15 and lasting until January 2026, this moment marks a significant transition. But rest assured, the work continues. While many of our educators and students take a well-deserved break this summer, the Board of Trustees and administration are already planning for the 2025–26 school year to make it the best one yet.
One exciting event coming up is our third annual Back to School Fiesta, which will return to all 10 traditional high schools this July. These vibrant celebrations help connect families with schools, provide essential resources, and start the year off with joy, unity, and school spirit. We hope to see you there!
To our families: thank you for your trust and partnership. To our educators and staff: thank you for your tireless dedication and passion. And to our students—thank you for inspiring us to dream big every single day. It has truly been my greatest honor to serve El Paso ISD.
Let’s continue building a future we can all be proud of.
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
Superintendent, El Paso ISD
