Dear El Paso ISD,
Graduation season is here! This weekend, we celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2025, including the inaugural graduating classes from Coronado, Franklin, and Jefferson P-TECH programs. These students will not only earn their high school diplomas but will also walk the stage with associate degrees and workforce certifications in hand—proof that El Paso ISD is preparing students for college, careers, and life. Congratulations to all our graduates and their families on this momentous achievement!
Next week, we look forward to another special celebration—our annual Teacher of the Year and Educational Support Personnel of the Year awards ceremony on Thursday, May 22. We are honored to recognize these remarkable educators and staff who go above and beyond for our students every day. Their passion, innovation, and dedication help shape the bright future of our district.
Today marks a very special debut—our first official elementary theater musical production under the district’s expanded fine arts initiative! Moreno and Moreno Montessori will take the stage tonight at 7 p.m. at Austin High School to present Aladdin the Musical. Admission is free, and we invite the community to join us in celebrating the creativity and talent of our young performers.
This week also brought us the grand opening of the Rocket Market at Irvin High School, our newest school-based food pantry. With six pantries now operating across the district—three of which are Client Choice models—El Paso ISD continues to strengthen its commitment to whole-child wellness. A big thank-you to our partners at El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and to the incredible Irvin staff and students who brought this vision to life.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming back a distinguished alum to Burges High School: former CBS Sports and Tennis Channel broadcaster Bill Macatee. Mr. Macatee toured his former campus and joined us in recognizing two outstanding student-athletes signing to compete at the collegiate level. It was an inspiring day full of pride, legacy, and community connection.
Please also join us in wishing the very best to our talented student-athletes competing at the state tennis championships this week! We are proud of their dedication and hard work representing El Paso ISD at the highest level.
We are also pleased to welcome back a familiar face to El Paso ISD. Coach Ruben Torres has been named the new head football coach at Franklin High School. Coach Torres, an El Paso native and Irvin High School graduate, brings years of successful leadership and a commitment to student growth on and off the field.
Finally, I am honored to serve as the keynote speaker for the Texas Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (TALAS) event here in El Paso. I look forward to connecting with fellow educators and leaders for a day of meaningful learning and collaboration.
One last reminder before we close out the school year, we want to hear from you! Please take a few moments to complete our Family Survey here. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us enhance the learning experience for every student across the district. The survey closes May 23.
And don’t forget—registration for the 2025-26 school year is now open at episd.org/register. We encourage all families to register early for a smooth start to the year.
Thank you for being part of our El Paso ISD community. Let’s finish the school year strong!
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
Superintendent, El Paso ISD
