2025 Congressional Art Showcase

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – May 5, 2025) — El Paso ISD proudly celebrates the achievements of two talented student artists who were recognized in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, hosted by U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar.

Marium Zahra, a student at Young Women’s STEAM Research and Preparatory Academy, earned the Best Portrait award for her powerful piece titled "Baba." The portrait was honored for its emotional depth and technical skill in capturing a personal and expressive image.

2025 Congressional Art ShowcaseMaura Rascon, a student at Coronado High School, received the TX-16 Choice award for her artwork titled "Tradition," which resonated with the theme of this year’s competition: The Spirit of El Paso. Her piece highlighted cultural heritage and community pride, aligning beautifully with the competition’s goal of capturing the essence of El Paso as a vibrant and welcoming community.

The 2025 Congressional Art Competition drew 126 submissions from 22 high schools across the El Paso area. Hosted at the El Paso Museum of Art, the event marked the first time a theme was introduced, encouraging students to express their vision of El Paso through creativity and personal interpretation.

The top 100 selected pieces, including those by Zahra and Rascon, will be on display at the El Paso Museum of Art from May through August.

El Paso ISD commends these students for their outstanding accomplishments and extends gratitude to their teachers and families for supporting their artistic journeys.
