(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – September 15, 2026) – During Tuesday night's meeting, the El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees officially adopted an overall school district property tax rate for the 2026-2027 school year that is lower than last year’s.

The newly approved combined tax rate drops to $1.0745 per $100 valuation. The adopted rate consists of two parts:

• Maintenance and Operations (M&O): Set at $0.7637 per $100 valuation, a decrease from last year.

• Interest and Sinking (I&S): Maintained a rate of $0.3108 per $100 valuation, the same as last year.

By maintaining the I&S rate, the district will successfully pay off $15.2 million in outstanding debt ahead of schedule, saving taxpayers nearly $2.7 million in future interest. The Board's strategic decision secures a lower overall tax rate for the community today while strengthening the district's financial health for the future.
