View of Leadershift Conference

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – July 16, 2024) — El Paso ISD leaders gathered at Don Haskins PK-8 School for the annual Professional Leadershift Conference. Attended by principals, directors, and cabinet members, this conference marked a significant moment for reflection and rejuvenation for the year ahead.  

 

The conference began on Monday, July 8, with an address from El Paso ISD Superintendent Diana Sayavedra, who set an inspiring tone for the event. She spoke about the brighter future ahead for El Paso ISD, emphasizing the district’s commitment to excellence and innovation. Additionally, the leadership framework was unveiled, highlighting the critical importance of effective leadership and its direct impact on student outcomes. 

 

Principals also shared compelling stories of leadership initiatives from their respective schools. Among the celebrated leaders was Coach Gregory Davis, whose remarkable 40-year tenure exemplifies dedication to the students of El Paso ISD. 

 

Another highlight of the conference was the recognition of the Principal Advisory Council for the 2023-24 term and the introduction of the new 2024-25 council members, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping strategic initiatives within the district. 

 

New principals were also announced at the conference along with the appointment of new Special Education directors.  

 

Keynote speaker Michelle Kinder shared her inspiring journey from growing up in Guatemala to achieving academic excellence at Baylor University and earning a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her extensive experience and background in educational psychology were central to her address. She emphasized the importance of supporting leaders and embodying emotional intelligence to help students maximize their talents. 

 

As the conference ended on Monday, July 15, the atmosphere was one of optimism and determination. Leaders walked away with renewed vigor, equipped with insights and strategies to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the 2024-2025 academic year.
