A MESSAGE FROM DIANA SAYAVEDRA

Dear El Paso ISD,

The countdown is almost over, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome you all back for the new school year! Monday, August 5, marks the beginning of another incredible journey for our students, teachers, and staff. The energy and anticipation are noticeable, and I am thrilled to see our hallways and classrooms come alive with the vibrant enthusiasm and eagerness of our learners. This year promises to be filled with new opportunities, growth, and achievements, and I am confident that together we will make it one of our best years yet.

Reflecting on our recent El Paso ISD Fiesta events, I am filled with immense pride and joy. Each of our ten high schools hosted a celebration tailored to their feeder patterns, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. It was wonderful to meet so many of you—our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic students. The aim was to strengthen the connections between our district campuses and the community, and I am pleased to say it was a tremendous success. The fun, laughter, and unity we experienced are a testament to the strong bonds we share.

I am also excited to introduce our new El Paso ISD app and the innovative Rooms feature. Our teachers have been trained on this powerful communication tool. Rooms is designed to help parents and teachers connect seamlessly, allowing parents to check on their child's homework, school news, and more. The addition of this feature reflects our commitment to enhancing communication and engagement within our district, ensuring that parents are always in the loop and can support their child's educational journey effectively.

School dress code policies have recently garnered community attention at a couple of schools. We see this as a valuable opportunity to foster a healthy engagement with the community in an effort to land on the values we share about safety and the success of students. We are committed to continuing this dialogue to strengthen our collaboration.

Finally, as we celebrate the start of a new school year, we also pause to reflect on the anniversary of the August 3rd tragedy that shook our community and left 23 lives lost. Tomorrow marks a somber day of remembrance for El Paso. While we continue to heal from that horrific nightmare, it’s essential to honor the strength and resilience that define our community. Together, we have shown that even in the face of unimaginable adversity, El Paso stands united, stronger, and more compassionate than ever.

Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead, filled with learning, growth, and unity.

It starts with us.

Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
