A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT DIANA SAYAVEDRA

Dear El Paso ISD,

I want to begin by addressing the recent incident at Franklin High School. It was undoubtedly a challenging day for all of us. I am deeply thankful that all our students and staff are safe, and I commend the swift and effective response that ensured the campus was secured. Counselors are readily available at our schools, and we will continue to check in on our students to ensure their well-being.

Due to this incident, the Destination District Redesign (DDR) meeting scheduled at Chapin High School has been postponed.

On a positive note, I’m pleased to report that the first of our DDR meetings was a success. The participation and thoughtful insights from those in attendance highlight our shared commitment to shaping the future of our district. We have nine more meetings to go, and I encourage everyone to participate as we continue this critical work together. Your input is essential as we forge a path toward success for our district. More details about the DDR initiative can be found here

This week marked the first Board of Trustees meeting of the 2024-25 school year. During the meeting, the trustees and I reviewed a detailed report on State Accountability, which highlighted campuses excelling above their peers and those making significant strides. We also discussed the targeted actions being implemented to support campuses in need of additional assistance, reaffirming our commitment to academic excellence across the district.

I ask each of you to help us underscore the importance of attendance. Please strongly encourage all students to attend school regularly, as attendance is the number one predictor of student success.

I’m also thrilled to announce that our Board of Trustees has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Young Women’s Preparatory Network for the Young Women’s STEAM Research and Preparatory Academy. This partnership will provide our students with enriched educational programs and resources, further supporting their academic and personal growth. This exciting development aligns perfectly with our broader vision of preparing every student in El Paso ISD for success.

As we continue with our DDR meetings and maintain our focus on academic excellence, I invite you to stay engaged and informed. Together, we will build a district that reflects the hopes and dreams of our entire community.

Thank you for your continued support.

It Starts With Us.

Sincerely,

Diana Sayavedra
Superintendent of Schools
