Hello El Paso ISD Community,
There is nothing quite like starting the day with great conversation, which is why I am so excited about Cafecito y Pan Dulce con Dr. Lusk. Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with parents and staff during morning drop-off at Douglass, Cielo Vista and Bobby Joe Hill PK-8. Over pan dulce from local favorites like Bowie Bakery, we discussed district updates, answered questions, and strengthened connections. I look forward to bringing this tradition to more campuses throughout the school year.
That same community spirit carried right into the weekend as we celebrated the start of Friday Night Lights. Families, alumni, and fans gathered before the Battle of the Claw at El Paso High School and the Southside Bowl at Jefferson High School for our inaugural community tailgates. With incredible student participation and generous food donations from local partners like Portillo’s and Peter Piper Pizza, these events proved that the magic of Friday nights extends far beyond the field.
Teacher Spotlight
Our classrooms continue to showcase the outstanding work happening across the district. At Nixon Elementary, 5th-grade teacher Hecmarie Pagan fostered engaging learning environments while down the hall Marie Flores and co-teacher James Cubillos, centered on collaboration and student participation. At Bowie High School, Mrs. Jessica Davis engaged English I students in purposeful writing that connected to their next lesson.

Things to Know
District Closure for Labor Day
As a friendly reminder, all El Paso ISD schools and district offices will be closed next Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We hope our students, staff, and families enjoy a safe and restful long weekend before normal schedules resume on Tuesday, September 8.

This incredible initiative pauses regular campus activities for 30 minutes so that every single student and staff member can stop and read together.
