(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — June 12, 2025) — Eighth-grade girls from across El Paso ISD got a glimpse of their potential futures at the Young Women’s STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy during a dynamic, student-led STEAM Conference held this spring.
Hosted in April, the event brought together students from middle schools throughout the district for a full day of hands-on learning and inspiration, entirely organized and facilitated by the Warriors of YWA. From guiding workshops to leading panel discussions, YWA students showcased what makes their school a hub for innovation, creativity, and empowerment.
“This was more than a conference—it was a celebration of what young women can accomplish when given the tools and trust to lead,” said Dr. Cynthia Ontiveros, principal of the academy. “Our students were excited to share their experiences and help others see the power of STEAM education and the unique opportunities available here at YWA.”
In addition to academic rigor, YWA students benefit from exposure to STEAM careers through mentorships and community partnerships, as well as opportunities for leadership and service.
The event also served as a recruitment opportunity, highlighting the supportive and empowering environment at YWA for families considering their options for high school. The campus provides a one-of-a-kind educational experience for young women interested in pursuing paths in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
With strong leadership, a bold vision, and students at the center of it all, the Young Women’s Academy continues to prepare the next generation of changemakers—one project, one partnership, and one confident young leader at a time.
