Dear El Paso ISD,
I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week! It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through November and inching closer to Thanksgiving break.
This week, our students continue to shine both in and out of the classroom. Hartley PK-8 student Sophia Salas, and Lamar Elementary student Francella Marin were recently announced as the top winners in the El Paso County Commissioners Court 2025 “Future Voter” Sticker Contest! The students entered the contest with the encouragement of their wonderful teachers. Sophia and Francella will be recognized next month during the El Paso Commissioners Court. Way to go!
We also want to highlight the meaningful celebrations held across the district in honor of Veterans Day. Our amazing students and staff organized heartfelt ceremonies and events to recognize the brave individuals who have served our country. Time is running out! VOTE and help us crown a champion in our Principal Attendance Challenge. We challenged our principals, students, and staff to create engaging and creative videos with the goal of encouraging students to show up to school. We received many fantastic entries and narrowed it down to just a few schools. The six finalists are: Nixon Elementary, Polk Elementary, Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 School, Guillen Middle School, CCTA, and Franklin High School. Take a moment to view the videos and vote for your favorite by clicking this link. The winners will receive cool prizes and of course bragging rights. I encourage everyone to vote! Voting is open through Friday, November 21.
Next month, the El Paso ISD Education Foundation will host its annual Fast Track to the Future 5K and 1-Mile Walk. This yearly tradition isn’t just about promoting community spirit and building healthy habits, but each person who signs up helps to support student success. Finally, I want to congratulate all of the students who participated in the KTSM’s Weather Fest last weekend. Our students dazzled audiences with their creativity, innovation, and scientific problem-solving skills. I want to give a shout out to Western Hills Elementary, Clendenin Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Cooley Elementary, Bobby Joe Hill PK-8 School, Haskins PK-8 School, Magoffin Middle School, MacArthur PK-8 School, Franklin High School, Austin High School, Bowie High School, and CCTE for representing El Paso ISD. Special congratulations to both Franklin and Austin High Schools for taking the top spots. While only two campuses received top awards, every EPISD school delivered outstanding work.
As mentioned, we have one final week left before the Thanksgiving break, and a reminder that next Friday will be early release for students. Have a safe and wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Martha Aguirre
Interim Superintendent
El Paso ISD
