(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – May 30, 2025) — Andress High School is preparing students for success after graduation through its thriving Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program, which continues to make strides in college readiness, career preparation, and cost savings for families. The school recently celebrated those achievements during its Second Annual P-TECH Dual Credit Celebration, recognizing students for their remarkable progress in both high school and college coursework.
With three full cohorts now enrolled, the Andress P-TECH program offers students the opportunity to earn college credit while completing their high school diploma. This year’s celebration featured a major milestone: the recognition of the program’s first two early graduates. Juniors Josiah Ochoa and Amaya Kastler are on track to graduate in just three years, thanks to their dedication, discipline, and ambition.
“These students represent what’s possible when opportunity meets hard work,” said Andress High School Principal Ruben Alarcon. “Our P-TECH Eagles are rising to the challenge, and we’re incredibly proud of the example they’re setting for their peers and for the future of education in our district.”
The event also showcased impressive student outcomes:
• 1,220 college credit hours earned across the three cohorts:
o Class of 2026: 891 credits
o Class of 2027: 272 credits
o Class of 2028: 57 credits
• 124 additional credits currently in progress, with a projected 1,344 total credits by the end of the academic year
• 63.65% of the Class of 2026 (49 out of 77 students) are already College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) certified
In addition to academic success, the program is generating substantial savings for families:
• EPCC dual credit value: $165,920 (current), projected to reach $182,784
• UT Austin equivalent value: $2,065,460 (current), projected to surpass $2.2 million
The celebration also honored the strong partnership between El Paso ISD and El Paso Community College, whose collaboration ensures that students are supported through rigorous college-level coursework.
With the Class of 2026 set to become the program’s first graduating cohort and a fourth cohort preparing to begin in the fall, Andress P-TECH continues to build momentum.
“Our students are not just earning credits—they’re gaining confidence, skills, and a vision for their future,” Alarcon said. “The future is bright at Andress, and this is just the beginning.”
