(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Nov. 5, 2025) — El Paso ISD is gearing up for a districtwide celebration of literacy as campuses prepare to participate in Read Across the District (RAD) on Friday, Nov. 7. This year’s official kickoff event will be hosted at Hart Elementary School beginning at 10 a.m., where students and staff are set to showcase their enthusiasm for reading.
RAD is an annual event that is supported by the Library Services Department and the Teaching and Learning Division. Together, educators will highlight the importance of reading and encourage campuses across the district to celebrate the joy of picking up a book.
As part of the festivities, Hart Elementary will welcome children’s author Lisa Caprelli, creator of the Unicorn Jazz series. Caprelli will meet with students throughout the afternoon. While Hart Elementary will host the official kickoff, campuses across the district will also hold their own RAD celebrations on Nov. 7.
The event comes as El Paso ISD remains focused on literacy and celebrates the achievements of its campuses including those who recently earned the Reading and Language Arts distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The recently released TEA Accountability Ratings also showed that El Paso ISD surpassed pre-pandemic reading levels during the 2024-25 school year, showing a vast improvement in this critical skill.
As part of the district’s continued focus on literacy, El Paso ISD invites you to experience Buenas Noches, El Paso, a beloved initiative designed to inspire young readers beyond the classroom. The program features local leaders reading children’s books aloud, offering families a meaningful way to share stories during dinner time, evening routines, or bedtime. By inviting the community to join us for nightly reading moments, El Paso ISD hopes to help cultivate lifelong readers and strengthen family literacy at home.
Read Across the District is part of El Paso ISD’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful, engaging literacy experiences that strengthen academic foundations and inspire lifelong learners.
