El Paso High School Miles Westbrook

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – May 5, 2025) — El Paso High School standout Miles Westbrook made history Friday, May 2 by capturing the Class 5A state championship in the 3200-meter run during the UIL Track and Field State Meet held at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin.

El Paso High School Miles WestbrookWestbrook crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 9:10, securing first place in the long-distance event and earning his first career state title.

Westbrook’s victory capped an exciting weekend for El Paso ISD athletes, who proudly represented their schools on one of the state’s biggest stages.

Franklin High School had a strong showing in the relays:

• The team of Ikenna Chikwendu, Gerald Williams, Elias Munoz, and Tyson Cotchery earned a silver medal, placing second in the 4x400-meter relay.

• In the 4x100-meter relay, Chikwendu, Williams, Munoz, and Ernie Powers, finished a strong fourth overall.

Chapin High School TrackChapin High School’s relay team of Aahniyah Clayton, Aliyah Rosario, Sianna Butler, and Laurin Gardner also impressed, securing a fourth-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.

Rounding out the district’s results, Malin Arnoldussen of Burges High School placed sixth in the 800-meter run, adding another commendable performance to El Paso ISD’s tally.

El Paso ISD celebrates the hard work and achievements of these student-athletes and their coaches, whose dedication and talent continue to inspire pride across the district.
