(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — May 2, 2025) — El Paso ISD athletes from Burges, Chapin, El Paso, and Franklin High Schools are set to take center stage this weekend at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin. The elite two-day meet will be held at Myers Track Stadium, where Texas' top high school athletes compete for state titles in speed, stamina, and strength.
Among the standout competitors is the Franklin High School boys track team, which made district history this year as the first-ever 6A regional champions. Their milestone victory has energized the entire El Paso ISD community and put a well-deserved spotlight on the team’s incredible determination, teamwork, and talent.
Not only did the Cougars claim the region title, but they also shattered city records in both the 4x100m and 4x200m relays this season.
The state meet runs Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, with El Paso ISD athletes competing across a range of events:
• El Paso High School will have representation in the 5A Boys 3200 Meter Run (Friday, 8:45 a.m.) and 5A Boys 1600 Meter Run (Friday, 7:15 p.m.).
• Burges High School steps onto the track for the 5A Boys 800 Meter Run (Friday, 4:20 p.m.).
• Chapin High School brings speed and teamwork to the 5A Girls 4 x 200 Relay (Friday, 5:40 p.m.).
• Franklin High School, representing in the 6A division, will compete in the Boys 4 x 100 Relay twice—on Friday at 4 p.m. and again on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
These student-athletes have trained relentlessly for this moment, balancing academics and athletics to reach the highest level of competition in Texas high school sports. Their journey to state is a testament to their grit, resilience, and the outstanding support of their coaches, families, and school communities.
