(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Dec. 1, 2025) — From cheering on her favorite wrestlers as a child in El Paso to competing professionally in Mexico, Chapin High School alumna Priscilla Miranda, Class of 2019, is living the dream she’s had since she was young: becoming a professional wrestler.
Miranda now competes with CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre), one of the most iconic wrestling organizations in the world. Her journey from EPISD student to rising Lucha Libre talent was shaped by years of discipline, passion, and unwavering support from her family and community.
“I started very young,” Miranda said. “I always wanted to be a professional wrestler. All my family loves wrestling, so it’s something that’s been around me forever.”
Before entering the world of Lucha Libre, Miranda trained in Olympic-style wrestling—a foundation she says made the transition feel natural.
“Olympic wrestling gives you the basis for Lucha Libre, so from there it was a quick jump,” she said. “That’s when I realized this is where I want to be.”
Like many young fans, she admired WWE superstar John Cena growing up, but in her home, the biggest influence was El Paso’s own Eddie Guerrero.
“Cena was everyone’s favorite wrestler, but my family’s favorite was Eddie Guerrero,” Miranda said. “A lot of what I do isn’t based on Eddie, but it’s definitely been influenced by what I’ve seen him do.”
Miranda’s EPISD roots run deep. She began her journey at Barron Elementary, where her mother still teaches, then attended Nolan Richardson Middle School before becoming a Chapin Husky, where she balanced a wide range of activities.
She participated in soccer, Olympic wrestling, engineering, and later the sports medicine program. It's a workload she says helped build her work ethic and leadership skills.
“I learned discipline from my dad because he’s a really strict guy,” Miranda said.
Miranda hopes her journey inspires current EPISD students to chase their dreams with confidence and courage.
“EPISD really supported me growing up,” she said. “I had so many wonderful coaches and teachers who believed in me. All of that helped me realize this is where I want to be — and that chasing your dreams is always worth it.”
