(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – October 20, 2026) — Building on its approach to maximizing district assets, El Paso ISD is actively transforming surplus properties into opportunities that benefit students, families, neighborhoods and taxpayers. Rather than allowing these facilities to sit vacant, the district is strategically pursuing redevelopment efforts that bring new life to these spaces, expand educational opportunities, strengthen communities and support economic growth across El Paso.

A cornerstone of this strategic initiative is the district’s focus on repurposing vacant properties into vibrant community hubs. Through an innovative partnership with Head Start, the former Travis and Stanton Elementary campuses will soon serve young learners and their families. This collaboration not only expands critical access to early childhood education but also provides families with an early, supportive connection to El Paso ISD before their children transition into district classrooms.

In addition to fostering community partnerships, El Paso ISD is proactively selling underutilized properties to generate new resources for the district and return land to productive use. The district successfully completed the sale of a West El Paso property in the Montecillo area for approximately $3 million. Building on that momentum, the district recently approved the sale of the Kenworthy property. With additional pending sales currently in the pipeline, the district is demonstrating a strong commitment to financial stewardship and neighborhood revitalization.

Moving forward, remaining surplus properties will continue to be rigorously evaluated for redevelopment opportunities, dynamic partnerships, or potential sale. El Paso ISD remains focused on end uses that uplift both taxpayers and surrounding neighborhoods. By prioritizing opportunities that create green space, expand community services, and promote robust economic development, the district aims to enhance the overall quality of life across El Paso.
