(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – August 8, 2024) — The Jefferson High School community is celebrating a significant milestone. The campus, located along Alameda Avenue in Central El Paso, is turning 75 years old in 2024.

To mark this momentous occasion, Jefferson alumni, staff, and local leaders held a rally inside the newly constructed main gym on Tuesday, July 16. Mr. Cruz Ochoa, the president of the “La Jeff” 75th Diamond Celebration Committee, led the rally and spoke about the importance of the anniversary.

“I think this event is great because it allows us to share our touching memories and make new friends,” Ochoa said. “No matter what year you graduated, you’ll find that you have something in common with the alumni here at Jefferson, and that common thread is what keeps us going to bring all the alumni together.”

Jefferson High School first opened its doors in September 1949. The campus has since played a significant role in the El Paso community, providing education to countless students who have walked through its halls. New amenities have been added over the years, including the new gym, which features state-of-the-art heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, a new basketball court, as well as updated classrooms and technology.

“I hope that students who were in attendance at today’s event learned about the history of the school and will carry on the legacy of this great campus,” said Jefferson High School Principal Edgar Rincon.

Later this year, the Diamond Celebration Committee, along with the dedicated staff at Jefferson, will organize a grand parade featuring alumni from different decades. The parade is scheduled to take place on September 14. The pinnacle of this grand celebration will be an event held at the El Paso County Coliseum on the same day, featuring live music, dancing, and entertainment to ensure a memorable experience for all attendees.
