Dear El Paso ISD Community,
I want to begin by extending my deepest condolences to the Apalachee High School community in Georgia following the tragic and senseless shooting that occurred on Wednesday. Our hearts are with the students, staff, and families affected by this devastating event.
September is a busy and exciting month for us. Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for September 10, 11, and 12. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to engage with teachers and discuss their child's progress.
Additionally, El Paso ISD Night at the Locomotive game will take place on Saturday, September 21. I encourage everyone to join us for a fun evening, celebrating our local team and enjoying time with colleagues. You can purchase tickets here.
Congratulations to the Bowie Bears for their victory over the Jefferson Silver Foxes. Athletic events are also in full swing across our district. Come out and support our student-athletes as they showcase their talent and hard work. To view the schedule and purchase tickets, click here. Your presence at these events is a wonderful way to show our students that we are behind them every step of the way.
We also have a wonderful achievement to celebrate: Ryan Medrano, a Coronado High School alumnus, competed in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, and earned two silver medals. Ryan’s perseverance and dedication are an inspiration to us all, and we wish him continued success in his athletic endeavors.
I would also like to acknowledge the great things happening at the Don Haskins PK-8 school. On Friday, staff held its Haskins Hero of the month award celebration for its students. It’s a new project that began at the campus for the 2024-25 school year. Haskins Hero recognizes students who are doing great things in their community. One of the reasons behind the creative idea is to inspire positivity on the campus and to showcase people doing good for one another. Way to go!
As we near the final of phase II of our Destination District Redesign (DDR) meetings, I want to thank everyone who has participated so far. The next meeting will be held at Bowie High School on September 9, followed by Chapin High School on September 12, and Franklin High School on September 16. Your feedback is essential as we shape the future of El Paso ISD, and I encourage you to attend these final sessions.
Thank you for your ongoing dedication and hard work. Together, we are building a brighter future for our students and our community.
It Starts With Us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
Superintendent of Schools
