Dear El Paso ISD,
This week has been a difficult one for our district. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Franklin High School student Emmanuel Lopez, who tragically lost his life in a car crash last Saturday. Additionally, we are praying for the Jefferson High School students who were injured in a terrible accident on Wednesday. We stand in solidarity with their families during this challenging time, and our hearts are with all those affected. Please know that support services, including counseling, are available for students and staff.
I also want to take a moment to address the critical issue of school threats. These incidents have a profound impact on the safety and well-being of our community. All threats are taken very seriously and can lead to immediate action to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Even false threats, while often made without malicious intent, have severe consequences for those involved. Any student found responsible for making false threats could face significant legal repercussions. We urge parents to closely monitor their children’s online activity and encourage open communication about the serious ramifications of both real and false threats.
Despite these difficult moments, we remain committed to celebrating and building our school community. I invite all El Paso ISD staff to join us at the El Paso ISD Night at the Locomotive Game this Saturday, September 21. This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a district, have some fun, and support our local team. Tickets are still available, and we hope to see you there!
Lastly, I want to highlight the incredible work happening through our Project Search Program. In partnership with the Hospitals of Providence, nine students are embarking on a year of hands-on workplace experience designed to help them transition into the workforce. This program empowers students with developmental disabilities to gain valuable skills, preparing them for future employment and independence. We are proud of their journey and excited to see their continued growth.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our students and our district. Together, we can make El Paso ISD a place where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
It Starts With Us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
Superintendent of Schools
