Dear El Paso ISD Community,
As we step into February, I want to thank our families and teachers for a successful round of parent-teacher conferences. These meaningful conversations strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring every student receives the support they need to thrive. Your commitment to student success continues to make El Paso ISD a community of excellence.
I am also proud to congratulate Michelle Corral, principal of Douglass Elementary School, on being named the 2025 Region 19 TEPSAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. This prestigious honor highlights her dedication to student achievement, strong leadership, and commitment to education. Michelle’s work exemplifies the best of El Paso ISD, and we are thrilled to celebrate this state-level recognition.
This week, we’re cheering on our talented dance students as they compete in the Border Dance Competition on February 7 and 8 at Bowie High School. Their dedication, creativity, and passion for performance inspire us all. We encourage you to attend and support these incredible students as they showcase their hard work and talent.
Additionally, I want to celebrate the accomplishments of our Burges and Bowie High School girls' basketball teams, who recently secured district championships. A special congratulations to the Bowie Bears for their first district title in 23 years! These student-athletes have demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination, making us all incredibly proud.
February also marks Heart Month, and El Paso ISD is committed to promoting cardiovascular health. Through our Blood Pressure Initiative, we are offering free screenings for employees across campuses this month. We also supported National Wear Red Day on February 7 in partnership with the American Heart Association. I encourage everyone to participate, spread awareness, and take simple steps—like regular blood pressure checks and heart-healthy habits—to support wellness and prevent cardiovascular disease.
Our efforts for Destination District Redesign (DDR) are progressing positively with a Priority Registration response rate reaching over 90%; I am so grateful for the hard work of our staff and the support of our families that went into reaching this milestone. We heard you and are continuing with an intensified focus on Surplus Properties and advancing our efforts to transition them in a way that best serves our communities.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our students, staff, and community. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier, and more successful future for all.
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra Superintendent, El Paso ISD
