Dear El Paso ISD,
As we return to our essential work, I want to address any concerns about layoffs occurring in school districts across the country. At El Paso ISD, we have spent the last several years making strategic, data-driven decisions. While some of these choices have been challenging, they have been necessary to ensure we continue delivering a high-quality education while maintaining fiscal responsibility and sound stewardship of taxpayer money. Because of this, El Paso ISD is not facing layoffs. We deeply value each of you and the vital contributions you make every day to support our students’ success.
Following valuable input from our community, the El Paso ISD Board of Trustees has approved the academic calendars for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. The updated 2025-26 calendar is designed to provide a better balance between instructional time and professional development for our teachers. Similarly, the 2026-27 calendar prioritizes these goals and includes a full two-week Spring Break for students and staff. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this important decision-making process—your voices truly make a difference.
This week, we’re celebrating the incredible talent of our student musicians. Our mariachi groups from Austin, Chapin, Coronado, and Franklin high schools are heading to the UIL State Mariachi Festival in Seguin, Texas. These students have already earned Superior ratings at the regional level, and we are so proud of their hard work and dedication. Best of luck—you are representing El Paso ISD with excellence and pride!
I also want to wish the very best to our brilliant spellers competing in the regional spelling bee this Saturday at Andress High School. The Scripps National Spelling Bee is now in its 100 years and El Paso ISD has the privilege of hosting the regional event! Our student’s focus, preparation, and passion for language are truly inspiring. We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way!
Finally, let’s show our support for the outstanding athletes representing El Paso ISD at state competitions this weekend. The boys' basketball teams from Andress, Chapin, and El Paso High are competing for top honors, while swimmers from Chapin, Coronado, El Paso, and Jefferson will dive into the UIL State Championship. Good luck to all—you make us proud with your determination, teamwork, and dedication.
Thank you for all that you do to make El Paso ISD a vibrant and thriving community. Your commitment to our students’ growth—whether through academics, the arts, or athletics—continues to inspire excellence across our district. Let’s make it another great week!
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
