A MESSAGE FROM DR. BRIAN LUSK

Dear El Paso ISD,

After serving as Superintendent of El Paso ISD for only a short time, I already feel a strong sense of belonging. At every campus and department, I see dedication, pride, and a belief in the transformative power of education. The people of this district inspire me daily, and I am energized by the work ahead. I see tremendous potential in each of you, and I am confident that together we will accomplish great things in the year ahead.

Last week, I was honored to celebrate the successes of our Early College High School and P-TECH students during the El Paso Community College Fall 2025 Commencement ceremony. Watching these students earn their associate degrees before graduating high school reminded me of what can happen when opportunity, support, and determination come together.

San Jacinto Adult Learning Center is celebrating an important week. On Thursday, 64 students walked on to the big stage to celebrate earning their GEDs and Phlebotomy certifications. Their achievement reminds us that learning never stops, and that determination can open new doors at any stage of life.

As I learn more about our district, I am inspired by the stories about our students’ achievements. Burges High School senior Catalina Gutierrez represents the leadership and promise found throughout El Paso ISD. Being chosen as one of only two students from Texas for the United States Senate Youth Program is a remarkable honor. Catalina’s dedication to service, civic involvement, and academic success reflects the best of our district, and we are very proud of her.

Kindness and compassion continue to shine in communities throughout our schools. Students and community members from Franklin and Coronado High Schools collected gifts for Aoy Elementary, while teachers and staff at Irvin High School showed support for its students before the holiday break by making sure no student went home empty handed during this special time.

I have committed to listening and learning first and foremost, with a genuine desire to work alongside all of us. I have begun meeting with individuals from across the district and community to hear their perspectives on our school culture. These conversations have been thoughtful and meaningful, centered on our shared expectations for the district and the goals we aim to achieve together. I look forward to engaging with even more members of the El Paso ISD community in the coming weeks as I continue to learn from and about the people who make this district strong.

Wishing you a restful and joyful holiday season. I look forward to welcoming El Paso ISD team members back on January 5 and students on January 7 as we begin the new year strong, together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Lusk, Superintendent of Schools
