This is a clarifying message from the Powell principal, Mrs. Pringle.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We understand there has been some confusion regarding the updated dress code policy, and we’d like to take a moment to clarify a few key points. While Powell does not require students to wear uniforms, students are expected to follow the district’s dress code to ensure a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment.
Many of the dress code expectations remain consistent with past years, but the district has added some clarifications—particularly regarding footwear and clothing imagery. Below is a summary of the updated guidelines:
Footwear:
All students must wear closed-toed shoes.
Prohibited footwear includes: steel-toed boots, Crocs, flip-flops, sandals, slides, or slippers.
Clothing Guidelines:
No spaghetti straps or sleeveless tops.
No see-through clothing.
Undergarments must not be visible at any time.
Shorts and skirts must be of appropriate length. (We recommend that young students who wear dresses also wear shorts underneath for safe/modest play on the playground.)
Shirts must reach the waistline and should cover the stomach—even when arms are raised.
Pants should not have oversized holes, especially above the knees, that expose undergarments.
Pajamas are not allowed on campus unless it's a designated spirit day.
Other Dress Code Clarifications:
Clothing, accessories, or tattoos that display or promote violence, gangs, racism, vulgar or explicit content, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons, or nudity are strictly prohibited.
Head coverings such as bandanas, hair nets, or any non-religious headwear are not allowed.
Hats, caps, hoods, and sunglasses must be removed while indoors.
Dangling chains or belt ends, and visible bandanas are not permitted.
These expectations are in place to keep our campus environment respectful, inclusive, and focused on learning. We appreciate your continued support in helping our students dress appropriately for school. If you have questions or concerns about the dress code, please feel free to reach out.
If you have any further questions, please contact Powell administration.
