Good afternoon Western Hills Families,
This year marks our first Thanksgiving Lunch with our expanded school community, and we are thrilled to share this experience with all the new families who have joined Western Hills this school year.
As our student population has grown significantly, we kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as we navigate this new Thanksgiving lunch process. Our priority is to ensure a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for all students and families while maintaining the respectful environment that defines our school community.
Attached you will find the Thanksgiving Lunch Schedule. We encourage families to arrive approximately ten minutes prior to their child’s scheduled lunch time to check in at the front office and pick up pre-purchased tickets. Parents will be allowed into the cafeteria a few minutes before students arrive to collect lunches and find seating.
We look forward to sharing this meaningful tradition with our Western Hills families and celebrating the spirit of togetherness that makes our school so special.
Warm regards,
Western Hills Elementary

Dear Families and Guardians,

Next week, the counselors at Western Hills Elementary will be talking with your child about personal safety in our classrooms and community. We want your child to feel comfortable talking about this topic openly in the classroom and with staff at school. We hope you will encourage your child to talk about personal safety at home, too. Please support your child in talking with you about their concerns. Through a personal safety lesson adapted for each grade level, your child will learn how to identify feelings that tell them that something is wrong and what they can do to stay safe. Students will also learn about boundaries and personal privacy. Please contact the school counselor or your child’s teacher for support with these strategies. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Chaparro or Ms. Hernandez.

Here are some ways you can help:
· Remember that students should feel safe at school and at home.
· Teach your child to walk in a confident, assertive manner.
· Encourage your child to walk away and tell an adult if he or she feels someone is about to harm him or her.
· With your child, practice using a strong voice or strong look. These are things we have practiced at school.
· Remind students that private areas are areas covered by a swimsuit.
· Remind students that grown-ups should never ask to keep secrets from their parents.
· Talk about safe ways to act in situations that might be dangerous. For example, identify a safe house or store where they can ask adults for help.

With regards,
Mrs. Chaparro & Ms. Hernandez
