Dear Parents,
Thank you to those of you who joined us this evening for our STEM Challenge Parent Q&A session.
We will be extending the project deadline to November 19th. At that time, students must submit their poster board along with their demo/model or product to their science teacher. Students who submit their project on-time, tomorrow Nov. 13th, will receive extra credit.
Please make sure to coach your student to communicate with their teacher if they are experiencing any challenges within their group, especially if other members are not participating fully or contributing to the project. As a reminder, students will complete peer evaluations, and grades will reflect each student’s individual contribution. Although this is a group project, every student is responsible for their assigned part.
Thank you again for your support and feedback. We look forward to reviewing the final presentations on November 20th.

REMINDER!
Dear Parents/Guardians of Warrior 7th graders:
Our school will do spinal screenings this Tuesday-Friday, November 4th – 7th.
Texas State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
• Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (or fall semester of grade 5) and again at age 12 (or fall semester of grade 7).
I will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back from multiple angles while she stands and bends forward.
Important Recommendations:
· Girls should wear a thin tank top or a sports bra underneath their shirt on exam day. If girls are wearing a sports bra underneath their shirt, it is recommended to lift the back of their shirts in order to better see the entire spine. I will try to screen the majority of girls during PE class.
The school will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening. The letter will tell you how to follow up with a doctor. This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups. If you do not wish to have your child screened for religious reasons, you must submit an exemption to the school by 8am of scheduled screening day.
Thank you for your cooperation. Please contact me at ajjensen@episd.org or by phone at (915)236-4809 with any questions or if your student has already been diagnosed with scoliosis.
