Dear El Paso ISD,
When we bravely and earnestly shine our light into the world, we empower others to do the same.
As we approach the winter break, I want to take a moment to celebrate the light you’ve brought to our students, our schools, and our community this semester. Your dedication and boundless compassion inspire progress and possibility in every corner of our district. Let’s close this week on a high note, embracing the holiday season with hearts full of gratitude and joy.
On Wednesday, we held the final Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Council meeting of the year. During this session, I shared updates on the Destination District Redesign, focusing on how we are fostering community and supporting impacted families through this transition. Additionally, we introduced our Teacher Profile, which outlines the qualities and expectations that guide our educators in driving improved student outcomes across the district.
This week, we also had the privilege of welcoming a new cohort of 24 residents, through the Miner Teacher Residency program, in partnership with the University of Texas at El Paso. These talented candidates will be working alongside some of our great mentors here at the district. These talented candidates bring a fresh perspective and a deep commitment to our mission of academic excellence. We are excited to see the lasting impact they will make in our classrooms and community.
Additionally, I want to congratulate all our December graduates. A special acknowledgment goes to the graduates of the San Jacinto Adult Learning Center for demonstrating the transformative power of lifelong learning. Your accomplishments remind us that education has the ability to open doors at any stage of life.
This holiday season, our district has exemplified the true spirit of giving. From Rusk Elementary’s support for the Humane Society to the Knights of Columbus providing jackets for Herrera students, and the many gift distributions across our schools, the generosity and compassion within our community have been extraordinary. These acts of kindness illustrate the strength of our partnerships and the shared commitment to supporting our students and families.
As we move into a new semester, we enter a pivotal phase of Destination District Redesign (DDR), a transformation that extends beyond school restructuring to foster a stronger, more connected community. Our commitment to supporting this transition is reflected in the comprehensive measures we are implementing. These include robust support structures, engaging open houses, community activities, enhanced transportation services, and more. To streamline access to these resources, we are launching a dedicated webpage early next year that will serve as a one-stop hub for all transition-related information.
I am honored to be your superintendent and look forward to all that we will achieve together in the New Year. May your holidays be filled with peace, laughter, and cherished memories.
We look forward to welcoming staff back on Monday, January 6, and students on Wednesday, January 8. We want you all to embrace the exciting opportunities and milestones ahead.
It starts with us.
Sincerely,
Diana Sayavedra
