Message from Diana Sayavedra

Dear El Paso ISD,

This week, I had the honor of joining district leaders in Austin for a powerful learning experience with the Holdsworth Center—a valued partner in El Paso ISD’s mission to empower students to thrive. This collaboration has supported the development of strong, visionary school leaders across our system. From campus principals to instructional coaches and cabinet members, our team is engaged in building a pipeline of leadership that ensures every student benefits from a school culture rooted in excellence, equity, and opportunity. I was proud to present at this event and witness the tremendous growth happening within our district. When we invest in our people, we invest in the long-term success of our students and our community.

I also had the privilege this week of joining a panel of fellow El Paso-area superintendents for a special interview on KTEP radio, where we discussed the unique challenges and exciting opportunities facing public schools in our regions. It was a valuable conversation about how collaboration and innovation can drive meaningful change for students and families. The interview will air 1:30 p.m. on April 12 and on April 19. I encourage you to tune in and learn more about the shared vision our school districts are working toward.

This week marks National Assistant Principals Week, and I want to take a moment to thank the outstanding assistant principals across El Paso ISD for their unwavering dedication. These individuals are instrumental in guiding school operations, supporting teachers, and building positive school environments where students can thrive. They lead with heart, courage, and purpose—often behind the scenes—and we are deeply grateful for their service and leadership. Their contributions are essential to achieving the goals outlined in our Strategic Blueprint and ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, and academically challenged.

On Tuesday, April 15, El Paso ISD will celebrate the Month of the Military Child with our annual ā€œPurple Upā€ Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear purple as a show of support for the resilience and strength of our military-connected families. We are proud to serve a large population of military children and are committed to supporting their unique needs through programs and partnerships that honor their experiences. I encourage our community to take part and help us spread awareness and appreciation.

Tomorrow, we invite our community to experience the creativity and talent of our students at the 17th Annual El Paso ISD Student Digital Film Festival. This year’s event, held at the Lee Capshaw Fine Arts Center at Coronado High School, will feature original films created by students from across Region 19. For the first time, the entire festival is student-led—organized and hosted by Coronado High School students who have poured their passion into making this event a success. It’s a shining example of how we nurture leadership, self-expression, and innovation through the arts. We hope to see many of you there as we celebrate the incredible storytelling abilities of our students.

Congratulations to the Franklin High School robotics team for an impressive performance at their recent competition! The team is now preparing to compete at the international level in May, representing El Paso ISD among the best robotics teams in the world. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, ingenuity, and determination, and we will be cheering them on every step of the way!

Finally, I’m pleased to announce El Paso ISD’s summer hours will begin the week of June 9. During this time, district offices will operate on a 10-hour workday schedule, Monday through Thursday. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we make this seasonal shift to better serve our community.

Thank you for continuing to support our students and staff. Together, we are shaping a future full of promise and possibility.

It starts with us.

Sincerely,

Diana Sayavedra

Superintendent, El Paso ISD
