Next week, the counselors at Western Hills Elementary will be talking with your child about personal safety in our classrooms and community. We want your child to feel comfortable talking about this topic openly in the classroom and with staff at school. We hope you will encourage your child to talk about personal safety at home, too. Please support your child in talking with you about their concerns. Through a personal safety lesson adapted for each grade level, your child will learn how to identify feelings that tell them that something is wrong and what they can do to stay safe. Students will also learn about boundaries and personal privacy. Please contact the school counselor or your child’s teacher for support with these strategies. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Chaparro or Ms. Hernandez.
Here are some ways you can help:
· Remember that students should feel safe at school and at home.
· Teach your child to walk in a confident, assertive manner.
· Encourage your child to walk away and tell an adult if he or she feels someone is about to harm him or her.
· With your child, practice using a strong voice or strong look. These are things we have practiced at school.
· Remind students that private areas are areas covered by a swimsuit.
· Remind students that grown-ups should never ask to keep secrets from their parents.
· Talk about safe ways to act in situations that might be dangerous. For example, identify a safe house or store where they can ask adults for help.
With regards,
Mrs. Chaparro & Ms. Hernandez

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we continue to prioritize the safety of all students, staff, and families, we would like to remind everyone of the important procedures for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Please take a moment to review the following safety guidelines:
Follow the posted speed limit and use extra caution while driving in the parking lot and school zones.
Avoid making U-turns in front of the school. This is illegal and creates a serious safety hazard for students and other drivers.
Do not park in “No Parking” zones or block driveways and crosswalks. These areas must remain clear for safety and traffic flow.
Use designated crosswalks when walking your child to and from school. This helps ensure the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.
Front of the school drop-off area is reserved only for buses, CRC students, and daycare drop-offs. Please use the designated parent drop-off/pick-up area for all other students.
We appreciate your cooperation and attention to these procedures. By working together and following these safety guidelines, we can help keep all students safe during arrival and dismissal times.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Warm regards
