(TRANSMOUNTAIN EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL — January 4th, 2026) — Transmountain Early College High School honors the life and legacy of Angelique Diaz De Leon, a proud member of the Class of 2025.
Angelique joined TMECHS after applying in the Fall of 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She returned to campus at a time filled with uncertainty and became part of the first group of students to attend the in-person Summer Bridge program in Summer 2021. From the beginning, she showed determination, focus, and resilience as she worked toward earning both her high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree.
Angelique carried a strong work ethic throughout her years at TMECHS. She supported her peers, stepped up when others needed help, and treated those around her with care and respect. Students and staff knew her as dependable, kind, and uplifting. She brought light to our campus.
She embraced the academic rigor of the early college program. Angelique completed four years of high school coursework while taking college classes at El Paso Community College. In Spring 2025, she graduated from both EPCC and TMECHS, earning her associate degree and high school diploma.
Angelique made numerous sacrifices to achieve this goal. Her commitment to education led her to enroll at Pima Medical Institute, where she planned to pursue a career in occupational therapy. She had begun planning her future and setting goals for the year ahead.
On January 1, 2026, during the early morning hours after New Year's celebrations, Angelique was traveling home when an intoxicated driver collided with the vehicle she was in. She passed away at the scene.
Angelique’s life reflects the strength, perseverance, and heart of the Maverick community. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched, the example she set, and the impact she made at Transmountain Early College High School.
In response to this loss, El Paso ISD’s Department of Counseling and Advising will provide on-site counseling support at Transmountain Early College High School.
Licensed counselors will be available for students, teachers, staff, and community members on Wednesday, January 7.
This support is offered to provide a safe space for processing grief, sharing emotions, and receiving guidance during this difficult time. All members of the Maverick community are welcome to use these resources.
We honor Angelique.
We remember her.
She will always be a Maverick.
