(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – March 6, 2026) — Faith Jeon, a standout senior at Transmountain Early College High School (TMECHS), is ready to set sail toward a debt-free future. In a special ceremony held in the TMECHS cafeteria on Thursday, March 5, Jeon was officially presented with the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) National Scholarship—a highly competitive award valued at approximately $200,000.
Jeon’s selection is a rare feat; she is one of only 14 students across the region to be chosen by the most recent scholarship board. The award covers 100 percent of college tuition at more than 160 prestigious universities, provides a monthly tax-free stipend, and culminates in a commission as an officer in the United States Navy upon graduation.
For Jeon, the scholarship represents a blend of practical planning and global ambition. “It’s a really good way to pay for college, meet new people, and travel abroad,” Jeon said.
She credits the unique atmosphere at TMECHS for helping her navigate the rigorous application process. “Being at TMECHS has helped me a lot,” she shared. “I’ve met so many teachers who, if they were not in the Army, were military-affiliated. Getting to talk to these people has definitely broadened my experience with military access.”
Chief Mark Hambrick, NROTC Scholarship Program Coordinator for Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Phoenix, joined campus leaders yesterday to celebrate Jeon’s milestone. The presentation underscored the district’s commitment to providing students with pathways to high-stakes, high-reward careers.
TMECHS Principal Robert "Bobby" Stives noted that Jeon’s success is a reflection of both her character and the school’s mission. “This recognition reflects Faith’s academic excellence, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service,” Stives said. “At Transmountain, we strive to foster an environment where students can see beyond the classroom and into their future roles as leaders. We are incredibly proud of Faith’s achievement and the impact she is sure to make in the Navy.”
The NROTC Scholarship program remains one of the premier pathways for students to pursue higher education while preparing for a career of leadership in the United States Navy.
